Warmest Welcomes to Centra!
Nursing at Centra has a long, rich tradition of providing compassionate and clinically excellent care to our Central Virginia community, and we are honored to have you join us in continuing to build upon that history.
Our nurses are the backbone of our healthcare system, comprising the largest component of the Centra workforce.
Daily they impact the lives and well-being of our families, friends, and neighbors through the delivery of evidence-based care. In addition, we are the proud home of the Virginia Henderson Nurse Research Institute, named for the beloved nurse theorist Virginia Henderson, with roots in our local area.
Centra nursing first earned the designation of Magnet in 2005, the American Nurses Associations’ gold seal of excellence, reflective of a healthy work environment where nurses are engaged in shared decision-making practice. To date, only 8.9% of U.S. hospitals have achieved Magnet status. Since then, we have been redesignated three times!
Our frontline nurses, whether working at the inpatient bedside, in the operating room, emergency services, case management, medical group clinics, home health, or hospice, are the heart of our system. We genuinely value, solicit, and depend upon the input and voice of our nurses. We are committed to our nurses’ ongoing professional development and growth and look forward to the differences they will continue to make for our community.
