Internal Traveler Program

The purpose of the Centra Internal Traveler Team (CITT) is to supply our Emergency, Critical, Intermediate, and Acute Care departments (includes Medical-Surgical, Women’s & Children, Behavioral Health, and Acute Rehab) with experienced Centra supplemental staff.

Criteria for Consideration

INTERNAL APPLICANTS

  • Licensed Registered Nurse, in good standing, by Virginia or Compact State
  • One year of experience in each of the following units:
    • Emergency Department or Critical Care
    • Intermediate Care or Acute Care
  • Willingness to be trained within 6 months of hire for cross-division competencies
  • Completed all mandatory education by the last deadline.
  • Satisfactory rating on last performance and clinical competency evaluations.
  • Generally, upon joining CITT, caregivers will not be assigned to the department they just transferred from for a period of 90 days.
  • Exceptions may be made by the site CNO based on department need.

INTERNAL APPLICANTS

  • Licensed Registered Nurse, in good standing, by Virginia or Compact State
  • One year of experience in each of the following units:
    • Emergency Department or Critical Care
    • Intermediate Care or Acute Care
  • Willingness to be trained within 6 months of hire for cross-division competencies
  • Meet all employment criteria prior to start date, including pre-employment screening and job requirements.

Criteria for Acceptance

CITT members are full-time caregivers who are eligible for benefits and paid a higher pay rate. In return for this, you agree to the following terms:

System Team

  • Able and available to work 60 hours per week.
  • Able to work any shift; day or night, weekday or weekend.
  • – You will not be asked to work both day and night shifts during the same workweek.
    – Centra’s workweeks are Sunday through Saturday.

  • Able to work in any of Centra’s facilities.
  • Accept any assignments of up to two-weeks in duration.
  • Willing to work holidays, if scheduled.

Regional Team

  • Able and available to work 60 hours per week.
  • Able to work any shift; day or night, weekday or weekend.
  • – You will not be asked to work both day and night shifts during the same workweek.
    – Centra’s workweeks are Sunday through Saturday.

  • Able to work in any of Centra’s facilities within your assigned region:
  • – Region 1: LGH, VBH, BMH
    – Region 2: LGH, VBH, Gretna
    – Region 3: LGH, VBH, CSCH

  • Willing to work holidays, if scheduled.

Scheduling

Scheduling of all CITT assignments must be done through the CITT scheduler. Department managers and CITT members may not commit to or schedule assignments on their own. When possible, the CITT scheduler will provide reasonable notice of assignment, however, caregivers who have not received approval for time off will be expected to accept assignments regardless of notice provided.

System Team

Assignments will be made in one or two-week increments and team members are expected to accept assignments to any shift in any of Centra’s facilities.

  • Reasonable notice: 2 weeks
  • CITT caregivers will be assigned for at least 36 hours per week, according to business needs, provided they remain members of CITT

Regional Team

Assignments made in daily increments and team members are expected to accept assignments to any shift at a Centra facility within their assigned region.

  • Reasonable notice: 48 hours
  • CITT caregivers will be assigned for at least 36 hours per week, according to business needs, provided they remain members of CITT.

CITT caregivers shall request time off by submitting planned PTO to the CITT scheduler according to the following table. Requests for time off will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis. Approval is not guaranteed.

  • # Days Unavailable: 1-7, Advanced Notice: 2 Weeks
  • # Days Unavailable: 8-21, Advanced Notice: 4 Weeks
  • # Days Unavailable: 22+, Advanced Notice: Reviewed by HR

In the event of illness or emergency, the CITT caregiver shall notify the manager of the department they are assigned to and the CITT scheduler at least 2 hours in advance of the scheduled start time, when possible.

  • Three or more instances within a 12-month period disqualifies the caregiver from CITT.

Mileage

Mileage will be reimbursed under the following circumstances:

System Team

  • CITT caregiver is asked to travel from one site to another within the same workday
  • Initial travel from home to work site when more than 75 miles away from caregiver’s home
  • Final travel home from work site when more than 75 miles away from caregiver’s home
  • Mileage for travel between work site and lodging location during assignment is not reimbursed

Regional Team

  • CITT caregiver is asked to travel from one site to another within the same workday

Transfers Out

If you transfer out from the CITT, you will need to wait six months to be eligible to reapply for consideration. Caregivers may change between the System Team and the Regional Team only one time per 12-month period.
